According to the CDC, 7 out of 10 deaths in the  United States are because of a chronic illness. While not all chronic diseases are completely preventable, there are definitely steps and precautions that we can take to protect our bodies from harm.

  1. Healthy Eating Habits – By eating fruits, vegetables, and nutrients such as fiber and vitamins daily, we reduce our risk of becoming ill. Fiber binds to cholesterol in our bodies and draws it out, which lowers risk of heart disease and other potential problems.
  2. Exercise – Those who are active are much less likely to have a chronic illness. Obesity and chronic illnesses have been shown to have a correlation, so even going out for a long walk daily can reduce our risk.
  3. Manage Stress – Stress causes a multitude of physical problems in our bodies. It can lead to increased blood pressure, and also weakens the immune system. When the immune system is not functioning as it should, our bodies are more susceptible to all kinds of illnesses.

By trying to control these three habits in our lives, we can greatly increase quality of life and lower the risk of chronic diseases.
